Writing Kind Notes with Alphabet Stamps
Writing kind notes with alphabet stamps is a great pre-writing activity for young kids. Stamp out letters to form words and spread kindness to family and friends!

Evan is very interested in writing notes and drawing pictures for family. He especially loves to send the notes and drawings in the mail. So when I was thinking about activities we could do to teach him about kindness, I thought writing kind notes and mailing them would be right up his alley.
We recently got neat lowercase letter stamps and a stamp pad, so I decided to have him use those to write the notes to family. He is still learning how to use them so this activity was a bit of challenge for him. They aren’t perfect, but that’s what I love about them. It will be obvious to everyone who gets a note that it was totally made by him.
Materials Needed to Make Kind Notes:

Ink pad – I love this one because it comes right off with baby wipes or water.
Red paper
Scissors
Heart stickers
Activity Prep:
1. Draw large hearts on several sheets of red paper and cut them out. If your child is able, they can cut out the hearts instead.
2. Stamp out a sample note on one of the hearts for them to use as a guide. Originally, I wrote 3 different statements on a small whiteboard for him to use as a guide, but this didn’t work out well for him. He was confused about where to place each letter on the heart so that it would read left to right. When I made the guide on one of the actual hearts, he had much more success with stamping the letters in a way that was more readable.
What the child should do to make the kind notes:
Using the guide, the child should stamp out the letters on to the hearts so that they form words. Evan decided that he wanted every note to say “i love you.” He didn’t want to use any of the other examples I gave him. I think it worked out well this way, since the other examples were longer and would have been even more difficult for him to correctly spell out on the paper.
Evan is still learning how to hold and maneuver the stamps correctly, so this was challenging. He struggled to keep the letters right side up and properly line them up on the paper. It was great fine motor practice though. I just made sure to be right there to help him the whole time. I do think that older kids and kids who have a lot of experience using stamps would find this much less challenging though.
After he was done stamping, he wanted to add some heart stickers to the notes. This was even more fine motor practice. He really had to concentrate to peel the backing off those stickers!
In the end, Evan was super happy with his kind notes and didn’t waste any time giving them out to family members.
