We love move and learn alphabet activities! Evan had a blast with this Outdoor Letter Hunt, he couldn’t get enough of this Snowball Throw Alphabet Game and he really enjoyed this Rescue the Alphabet activity. So this scavenger hunt for heart letters didn’t disappoint. For even more alphabet activities, check out my alphabet activities page for lots of hands-on letter learning ideas!

Materials Needed:

Construction paper

Letter stickers – I got mine a Dollar Tree

Activity Prep:

1. Draw 9 hearts on a sheet of construction paper. Place two more sheets below that one and cut the hearts out on all three sheets of paper. You will now have 27 hearts-enough for every letter in the alphabet plus an extra one.

2. Place one letter sticker on each heart. I used these neat sparkly letter stickers to make them look extra special and more like valentines.

Activity Details:

Hide the hearts all over the house. Then invite your child to search for them. As they find them you can ask them questions about what letter it is and what sound it makes. If you want, you can provide a piece of paper with all of the letters written on it, so that your child can cross the letters off as they find them.

While participating in this activity, you can help to develop observation skills by giving hints as to where the hearts are hiding. Evan loves trying to figure out my clues and find the heart I am leading him to.

Alyssa got involved and went searching for letter hearts too. This is also a great way to develop observation skills with her and gave us the chance to work on developing new vocabulary like “under,” “on top,” “next to,” and she even was exposed to the letter names and letter sounds.
