Do you struggle with figuring out how to organize preschool supplies? I know I do! This school year I am determined to organize my supplies and make them easy to access.

How to organize preschool supplies.

I store supplies in a walk-in closet near the playroom. It has limited shelf space, and I have a ton to fit in there, so I have been trying to organize things in several ways to make it easier for my kids and I to access our supplies.

Lately, I have been storing small toys, puzzles and other learning supplies in plastic shoe boxes and bins, but they would end up half-full and leave lots of wasted space. They were also full of several different supplies all mixed together. Often times, I had to dig through a box to pick out the items I wanted. This caused lots of frustration and limited use of many of our supplies.

I needed to find a way to use the shoe boxes and other bins, but keep the contents sorted and easily accessible to my kids. Enter Ziploc® brand bags with Easy Open Tabs.

I already used them to keep puzzle pieces sorted in the bins, so I knew they would be perfect for keeping all the other items sorted. However, my son would sometimes have trouble opening Ziploc® brand bags. That’s why I was so excited when I found out that Ziploc® brand bags now have an added tabs, making them easy to grip and easy to open. Evan is able to grab onto the new Ziploc® brand Storage bags with Easy Open Tabs and open them with ease.

With these new bags on-hand, I started separating all of my supplies by subject. I have a large bin for alphabet learning supplies and another for math learning supplies. I put the puzzles and fine motor tools in plastic shoe boxes. I also plan to start a bin for science-related supplies as well.

Then. I put each set of supplies into its own Ziploc® brand bag with Easy Open Tabs. For most items, I used a quart size Ziploc® brand Storage bag with Easy Open Tabs. For larger items, like our large wooden lacing beads, I used a gallon size Ziploc® brand Storage bags. The smallest items were put inside Ziploc® brand Sandwich bags.

Once all of the items were separated into their individual bags, I added them back to the corresponding bin. While adding them to the bin, I wrote down the name of each item on a lined sticky note. This keeps the note attached to the bin and let’s me quickly see the inventory inside the box.

As I buy new items, I plan to immediately store them in Ziploc® brand bags and put each bag in the appropriate bin and add them to the inventory list.

While I was shopping at Kroger for my Ziploc® brand Storage bags with Easy Open Tabs, I spotted the Ziploc® brand containers with One Press Seal. I grabbed a few boxes of the small rectangle containers because I thought they would be good for storing the various craft supplies we have.

Organize supplies into Ziploc containers

Right now all of our craft supplies are in plastic drawer organizers. Within in each drawer the supplies are a mess. They are all just shoved in there. I couldn’t have been more excited when I got home with my Ziploc® brand containers with One Press Seal and realized they fit perfectly within the drawers! I can fit eight containers in each drawer. I now have glue sticks in one, crayons in one, glitter glue in another, buttons in one and so on. I actually sent my husband out to buy me more of them. I am so happy to have everything organized.

Now that I have a system in place, it is much easier to find supplies. I found items I didn’t even know I had because they were buried beneath a bunch of other stuff. It is now very easy to find what I need and everything is much more accessible to my kids as well. We are ready for a new year of preschool!
