Things to Do in Florida During Winter: Florida Winter Bucket List
There are so many things to do in Florida during winter. We hope our Florida Winter Bucket List inspires you to make the most of Florida during winter!
Florida is one of the best states to live in year-round, but especially during the winter! As snowbirds flock to warmer states like Florida, we are reminded of our amazing weather and why we love it here. We hope our Florida Winter Bucket List inspires you to start your own tradition of making one as well.
Experience Beautiful Scenery
Whether you’ve lived here your entire life or are just visiting for a bit, you’ll fall in love with Florida all over again with these gorgeous spots on our Bucket List.
Participate in the guided hikes and geocaching at Mead Garden or just sit back and relax, taking in the serene atmosphere. Pack a picnic and make it a day trip with the kiddos! If you’ve never tried geocaching, it’s fun for the entire family and they have apps that can help you learn the ropes if you’re a total newbie.
Take the family camping and fishing at one of Florida’s State Parks. Not a tent kind of gal (or guy)? They also have cabins and boat camping available!
Florida has many springs. Learn about life in a spring before your visit.
Established in 1931, St. Mark’s Wildlife Refuge is a winter oasis for migratory birds. As one of the oldest refuges in the National Wildlife Refuge System, it covers over 70,000 acres and 43 miles along the Gulf Coast.
The Everglades are often overlooked by Florida natives but they really shouldn’t be. The photographs you can capture in the Everglades are reason enough to visit! Florida Everglades National Park is made up of over a million acres of rivers and wetlands, designed to protect our fragile ecosystem. Take a Boat Tour while you’re exploring the Everglades.
Kissimee also has Swamp Tours available.
Be a Tourist
Of course, Disney World has to be mentioned when creating a Florida bucket list, but there are also lots of other tourist attractions you can check out too.
Cooler weather means shorter lines at these popular tourist destinations. Purchase the Go Orlando Card (if you have an affiliate link, use it instead of that link) to get an insanely good deal and save a ton of money on these famous attractions.
- LEGOLand
- SeaWorld
Universal Orlando - Kennedy Space Center
- Ripley’s Believe it or Not
- Fun Spot Theme Park
- Florida Aquarium
Love animals? Visit the Central Florida Zoo, Brevard Zoo, or even the Lowry Park Zoo.What I love about the zoo, aquarium, and even spots like the Kennedy Space Center, is that they can all be turned into educational field trips! Any time you can “sneak in” some learning, it’s a bonus, right? The kids will have a blast and get worn out at the same time, which makes for a solid night’s sleep afterwards. Perfect!
Toes in the Sand
It’s a little too chilly for most of us to swim in the ocean during the winter but that doesn’t mean you have to skip the beach! If you’re into surfing, it’s actually perfect weather with a wet suit on.
What’s Florida without a winter snorkeling trip to the Keys? You’ll experience sunshine and cool ocean breezes, both perfect conditions for water sports. Go fishing, jet skiing, and swimming in the Key West.
Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and take the Blue Heron River Tour. It’s not the toes in the sand on the beach kind of tour but it’s fun nonetheless. The tour is about two hours long, and takes you through the manatee refuge at Blue Spring State Park. You’ll most likely get to see alligators, wading birds, and turtles of all kinds.
