These muffin man nursery rhyme activities are packed full of learning opportunities. While baking muffins and sequencing the directions, young children will practice measuring, sequencing, and a fine motor skills.
This week the Playful Preschool theme is nursery rhymes. The team has a bunch of fun learning activities based on the theme, so make sure you check them out below.
Evan loves it when he gets to cook with me and he especially loves to bake since it usually results in a sweet treat. The muffin man lends itself perfectly to baking so I thought it would be fun to make muffins while learning about this nursery rhyme.
All of the ingredients needed to bake the muffins – I used this recipe.
The first thing you need to do is bake the muffins. I let Evan help by pouring the ingredients in the bowl. I also let him mix the ingredients. As we were making the muffins, I took pictures of many of the steps. I did this so that I could print the pictures off and we could sequence them.
I even got him involved with the clean up.
As we were waiting for the muffins to bake, I taught Evan the Muffin Man nursery rhyme. We even watched this video on YouTube. Both of the kids loved it!
When the muffins were done, we let them cool and then had a delicious after lunch treat.
Later on, I printed out some of the pictures I took so that we could use them for a sequencing activity. I picked pictures to represent a few of the most important steps. Then Evan and I used the pictures to sequence the steps we took to bake the muffins. Evan enjoyed going through the steps and looking at himself baking.
I love that we were able to reinforce lots of math, science and literacy concepts while also developing fine motor and practical life skills!
