Over the last week, we have had a lot of fun learning about ladybugs. We even did this neat activity where we modeled the life cycle of the ladybug with play dough. I thought it would be fun to plan a ladybug math game too, so I came up with this roll and cover activity.
Materials Needed:

- Small black buttons
- Dice
Playing the Ladybug Roll and Cover Math Game
To begin, I instructed Evan to roll one die and cover that many spots on the ladybug with buttons. For example, he rolled a three and then covered three spots on the ladybug with buttons. This continued until he had all of the spots covered with buttons.
After that, I instructed him to roll both dice and add the two numbers together. Then he covered that many spots on the ladybug with buttons.
Another option is to write numbers 1-12 in the spots on the ladybug. Have the child roll both dice and add the two numbers together. Then they should look for that number on the ladybug and cover it with a button. If there is more than one instance of that number on the ladybug, then you can choose to have them cover only one of them or all of them.
Overall, it was a great way to practice counting, adding, one to one correspondence and subitizing. Manipulating the buttons and placing them directly on each blank spot proved to be great fine motor practice for Evan as well!
