This fall tree number sense matching activity is perfect for kids in preschool and kindergarten. It is a fun way to learn number sense this fall!

We are spending lots of time working on number sense lately. It is important for children to have good number sense, but the good news is that there are so many hands-on ways to develop it.

This apple math printable bundle I made would be a great way to work on number sense this apple season! Or better yet, get the literacy and math bundle combined and have lots of apple activities ready to go!

If you are looking for more fall leaf activities, you should definitely check out these Free Fall Tree Counting Mats or this Fall Tree Number Matching activity. My kids have really enjoyed both of them!

Fall Tree Number Sense Matching

This fall tree number sense matching printable set includes everything you need to do the activity and develop number sense with your kids this fall.

Fall centers for kindergarten and first grade.

It includes numbers 1-20 so it is perfect for kids who are just learning numbers and for those who are working on double-digit numbers as well. So my 4-year-old preschooler uses the lower numbers and my first grader uses the highest numbers as review.

Supplies Needed:

  • Fall Tree Number Matching printable (link to download at the bottom of this post)
  • Cardstock (to print on)
  • Laminator and laminating sheets (optional)

It is super simple to set up and can be laminated and used again and again. I highly recommend that you print it out on cardstock for durability. If you are using this in a classroom or with multiple children, I would also recommend that you laminate the leaves and mat.

Rather than have a tree for each number, I decided to make the activity using one mat and number cards that could be changed out on it. This way you don’t have to print twenty pages of trees and use all that ink and paper. I hope this makes it even easier for you!

I also made the printable leaves in such a way that you can just cut along the lines, if you don’t feel like cutting around the leaves. You can quickly cut around the leaves (leaving a white edge for ease) like I did, but that isn’t necessary.

Using the Fall Tree Number Matching Activity

Children will place a number card on the tree mat and then put the corresponding leaves on the tree. Each number has three matching leaves – the number word, ten frame(s) and dice.

Once they find all of the matching leaves, they will remove the leaves and number card from the mat and start again with a new number.

That’s it! This is a great independent activity that kids can do at home or in math centers at school!
